                      2016 ROYAL COURT BASKETBALL SKILLS CHALLENGE

     

The Virginia Athletic Council's Inaugural Royal Court Basketball Skills Challenge was held Saturday, August 6, 2016 on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan College.  This fun event, held in partnership with the American Heart Association, was a huge success and promoted physical activity and an active lifestyle for youth and adults in Hampton Roads.  Media sponsor and local ABC affiliate, WVEC Channel 13, was present throughout as heart attack survivor and sports anchor Brian Smith addressed the participants on the importance of Heart Health.  All ages and skill levels competed to be the Prince and Princess and the King and Queen of the court. ~ More ~

       2ND ANNUAL VIRGINIA ATHLETIC COUNCIL BENEFIT & GALA HONORS
               SHERIFF JIM O' SULLIVAN AND FLOYD E. KELLAM HIGH SCHOOL



On the evening of November 10, 2015, the VAC honored Chesapeake Sheriff Jim O' Sullivan as its 2015 President’s Community Service Award winner and Floyd E.  Kellam High School as its 2015 Sportsmanship Award winner.  Each year as one of the organization's Signature Events, the Virginia Athletic Council recognizes high achieving student athletes and administrators from across the region.  The sold out event took place at The Traditions of Las Gaviotas, Chesapeake Golf Club in Chesapeake, Virginia; Mrs. Flora Allen-Hopson was the Keynote Speaker.  Each year as one of the organization's Signature Events, the Virginia Athletic Council recognizes high achieving student athletes and administrators from across the region.  The President’s Community Service Award and Sportsmanship Award are the most coveted of the honors.  ~ More~

                       MRS. FLORA ALLEN-HOPSON AS KEYNOTE SPEAKER


The Virginia Athletic Council (VAC) is proud to announce Mrs. Flora Allen-Hopson as the

Keynote Speaker for its 2nd Annual Benefit and Gala, November 10, 2015.  Allen-Hopson, mom

of NBA champion, Ray Allen, is probably best known for cheering her heart out for her son from the

sidelines while sporting a signature "bedazzled" number 20 or 34 jersey.  She will share her experiences and expertise on a range of topics including how to maintain a parent’s role while raising a high-profile athlete, commitment to community service and more.  ~ Continue~

  NEW EXECUTIVE INTERN JOINS MEDIA TEAM  

The Virginia Athletic Council is pleased to announce that Ms. Ashley O. Jones, B.A., has joined the organization as Media Communications Executive Intern.  Having been recognized for outstanding ability to create engaging content, Ashley will focus on developing and managing informational media and marketing campaigns.


Seth Fitch, President and Founder of the VAC commented: "the VAC is always looking for young, ambitious talent to add to the team. An executive internship will be a fantastic opportunity for Ashley to solidify her superb, existing skillset by gaining additional exposure to how sports media fits in with the rest of the marketing mix and gain leadership opportunities whilst demonstrating her professionalism, enthusiasm and willingness to learn."


Ashley will report directly to the President as part of the Media, Marketing and Business Development operations.  ~More~
